[SPORTIAN] China’s 8-7 extra-end win over Canada secured their place in the semi-final line-up. This game featured a score of three points in the seventh end for Canada, to take a 6-5 lead, but after this China stole one point in the ninth end and then scored the one point in the extra end that they needed for victory.

Meanwhile, Switzerland’s 6-4 win over United States gave them the second available place in the semi-finals. This game saw Switzerland steal single points in the third, fourth, eighth and ninth ends on the way to their win.

Russia share the same won six, lost two record as Switzerland, following their 10-3 win over Norway, but their record against other teams means that they have not yet qualified.

After their game against Norway, Russia’s skip Vlada Rumiantseva said, “we’re feeling good now because our next game may seal our qualification. We came here looking for medals. Today was a nice level, today was good, but we can do better.”

Korea kept themselves in semi-final contention with a 7-6 win over Japan, as did Sweden, with a 7-6 win over Scotland.

As a result of all this, two more semi-final places are up for grabs as the teams go into Friday afternoon’s last round-robin session, while direct qualification for next year’s championships is also still on the line.
